Elijah Craig Barrel Proof Batch A122 Straight Bourbon Whiskey

Origin: Heaven Hill Distillery

Following the American Revolutionary War and the defeat of the British at the Battle of Yorktown, the land west of the Appalachian Mountains was designated as Kentucky County, part of Virginia, and overseen by military governor John J. Bowman. Virginia encouraged settlement in this area by issuing “corn writs,” granting pioneers 60 acres of land to cultivate corn.

A year after the British defeat, Baptist minister Elijah Craig moved to Fayette County (now part of Kentucky) and acquired 1,000 acres in Lebanon. In 1789, Craig established a distillery on his farm, pioneering the aging of bourbon in charred oak casks, which earned him the moniker “Father of Bourbon Whiskey.” Elijah Craig remains a prominent name in bourbon history.

Taste and Production

Elijah Craig Barrel Proof Bourbon follows the traditional methods of the brand’s acclaimed bourbons. Aged for 12 years, this bourbon is uncut, straight from the barrel, and non-chill filtered. Each batch has a unique proof due to variations in the barrels. The batch numbering system indicates the release order, month, and year. For instance, Batch A122 is the first batch of 2022, released in January. This batch, distilled from a mash bill of 78% corn, 12% malted barley, and 10% rye, is bottled at 120.8 proof, offering a robust bourbon experience.
