E.H. Taylor Straight Rye Whiskey stands as a testament to the innovative spirit of Edmund Haynes Taylor, Jr. In 1869, Taylor purchased a distillery in Frankfurt, Kentucky, originally known as The Old Fire Copper Distillery. He modernized the facility with copper fermentation tanks, advanced grain grinding equipment, and unique columnar stills. Taylor’s pioneering methods included aging whiskey in climate-controlled rickhouses, distinguishing his products from others that used additives. In collaboration with Treasury Secretary John G. Carlisle, Taylor played a crucial role in passing the Bottled-In-Bond Act of 1897. This legislation mandated that spirits labeled as “Bonded” or “Bottled-in-Bond” be produced by a single distiller, during one distillation season, and aged for at least four years in federally bonded warehouses. The E.H. Taylor Straight Rye, crafted from hand-selected barrels and bottled at over 125 proof, embodies the pre-Prohibition era craftsmanship of Buffalo Trace Distillery under Taylor’s guidance.
