Calumet Farm 15 Year Old Single Rack Black Bourbon Whiskey

In 1924, William Monroe Wright, a successful entrepreneur and owner of Calumet Baking Powder Company, established a farm on the rolling hills of Lexington, Kentucky. The horses that were raised on Wrights farm would go on to win eight Kentucky derbies, along with two triple crowns.

Calumet Farm Bourbon Whiskey pays homage to Wright’s beautiful farm and his tradition of breeding winners. It was in 2013 that the first Calumet Farm Bourbon was released, produced in a singular very small batch. The bourbon is made from a traditional mash bill of corn, rye and, malted barley that are distilled before being aged in virgin American oak casks. As a result, the bourbon has an aroma of caramel, baking spices, and oak that gives way to notes of butterscotch, vanilla, toffee and brown sugar on the palate. The finish is full and warming, with hints of chili peppers and nutmeg.

Calumet Farm Single Rack Black 15 Year Old Bourbon Whiskey is the oldest whiskey currently in their lineup. The premium expression was crafted with a mash bill of 74% corn, 18% rye, and 8% malted barley and aged slowly in Kentucky rickhouses in a single, center cut rack. The bourbon is the highest-proof whiskey to come from Calumet Farm. It’s bottled without chill filtration at 105 proof. Bottled by the Three Springs Bottling Company, the batch consists of 19 barrels.

Tasting Notes

Oak and wood char lead the charge on the nose, followed by aromas of dark fruit and sweet corn. The palate has bold oak flavor, spice, toasted grains, as well as toffee, sweetness, and a touch of smoke. The slightly dry finish lingers with tobacco and rye notes.
